Smart Tech for London Hospital

The Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability has partnered with BT to improve patient care by harnessing smart facility data.

The Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability is currently working with start-up firm Microshare and BT as it find ways to improve the quality of care using available technology. 

 

The hospital, which is located in Putney, Southwest London, aims to harness the benefits that smart Internet of Things (IoT) can offer in terms of automating routine tasks so it can free up staff and allow them to spend more time with residents and patients. The move comes at a time when staff members are put under increased pressure due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many of their daily tasks are done manually and time-consuming. 

 

The smart technology solutions being introduced by the hospital involves the use of IoT sensors to monitor room occupancy and temperature as well as asset tracking of objects, among others. The technology will notify staff if an issue or problem requires their attention. 

 

Toby Roberts, CIO of the RHN, said: "The new IoT system is part of a major drive towards digital transformation at the hospital. Five years ago, the hospital was mostly a paper-based organisation with very little use of computers and networks. 

 

"However, over the past few years, we've introduced more digital solutions to make tasks simpler and easier. For example, whereas nurses used to take observations and record patient details on a clipboard, this is now done on an iPad and automatically fed into our secure network.
