Many smart devices that are being used in homes, such as smart locks and internet-connected TVs, are vulnerable to hackers because they lack security features. Fortunately, many companies are now developing security products that can keep unauthorised access at bay.
In early June, a British cybersecurity company called Bullguard released a $200 device called Dojo that offers “enterprise-class, multi-layered network security to the home.” It plugs into your router and assesses the health of your network. It can block against botnet while keeping watch for other types of security risks.
Paul Lipman, the CEO of Bullguard, said: “It’s looking at behavior of devices across the entirety of our customer base.”
If Dojo sees that one smart thermostat acting strangely, for example, Bullguard will take action that can be applied to other household networks with the same thermostat to stop the suspicious behavior on a larger scale.
Another company that offers the same service is Eero, a home-networking startup. On Tuesday, it has announced its next generation Wi-Fi system that comes with a new feature called Eero Plus, an optional subscription service that include security features for home networks.
