Smart home automation is becoming more and more common as smart devices, such as thermostats and virtual assistants, work on making our lives more comfortable and convenient. However, did you know that aside from convenience and increased privacy and security, smart devices could also help you cut your home energy costs?
Smart power strips, for example, allow you to remotely turn off devices and appliances that are not in use. Some models that are available in the market today even have motion sensors, which automatically turn the power off when you step out. In addition, smart power strips act as surge protectors, keeping your electronics safe during lightning storms so you won’t have to spend on repairs or worse, replacements.
Smart bulbs can also help you save on your power costs, which according to research, account for 11per cent of your home energy usage. Smart lighting can be controlled with smart sensors or smartphone, which allow you to turn off all the lights that you are not using wherever you may be.
Smart thermostats are also great in conserving energy. When used appropriately, research confirms that they can save you up to 23per cent of your overall energy bill. They can be programmed to set your air conditioner to keep your house warmer when you’re away and cooler when you are at home. They can also automatically change the temperature depending on the time of the day and outside temperature.
