A smart bike called Lyra is an entirely human-powered bike packed with amazing smart features. It has integrated built-in light that offers its user a “nearly 360-degrees” of visibility and GPS tracking so you can monitor your bike’s location at any time from a connected smartphone app.
The smart bike is powered by a removable battery that features a built-in Micro USB port, which makes it easier to charge than some other bike systems. According to the company, the battery lasts for about a month of active use.
Mission Bicycles custom builds each smart bike by hand – the frames are welded in Taiwan before they are shipped to San Francisco for final assembly. For the company’s Kickstarter campaign, interested parties have the option to get the $500 frame that bikers can either continue to use toward a custom Mission build or a prebuilt single- and eight-speed options.
Lyra’s single-speed model is $999 while the eight-speed version is $1,499. Interested buyers will also need to upgrade if they want to get GPS. Both smart bikes are expected to ship in October.
