Havering Council has confirmed that they have installed new temporary CCTV cameras in Ardleigh Green and Squirrels Heath Lane in response to growing concerns about anti-social behaviour in the area. To further improve the safety of residents and businesses, the council is also actively working with the college, police and neighbourhood watch co-ordinators.
Safer Schools police officers and the college spoke to students and encouraged them to stay on campus at lunch time. Transport for London, on the other hand, has increased the number of buses in the area, so students could leave at the end of the day.
Councillor Damian White, leader of Havering Council, said: “I’m pleased that the measures we introduced seem to have been successful in reducing anti-social behaviour in the area.
“However, we’re continuing to work closely with the police and college to ensure that residents and students remain safe. The new cameras will be reviewed after six months to see if they are needed for longer.
“In the meantime, we would encourage residents and businesses to report any incidents that occur so that action can be taken quickly.”
