Shark At The Market!

An eight-foot blue shark somehow made its way to Birmingham indoor market.

Experienced staff at AJ Barlow, in Birmingham, was taken aback when an eight-foot blue shark was delivered to their indoor market. In decades of trading, staff are used to seeing blue sharks that are only between four and five foot.

 

Director Craig Hadley said: “We have blue sharks delivered every now and again but this one stood out for being bigger than normal.

 

“They are normally between four and five foot, this one was eight foot.

 

"I’ve only seen two around that size in the 30 years I’ve been here, so we decided to take a picture with it, especially as sharks have been topical recently.”

 

While shark meat is not a common product on the high street, it is quite popular with customers.

 

Mr Hadley said: “We put it on display in the counter at first and it drew lots of attention.

 

“We’ve since cut it up and started selling it. It’s quite a popular fish. It’s got a very meaty taste, similar to swordfish, and goes well on the barbecue.”
