Although what 5G will actually be is not concrete yet, operators are still keen to get on board and help the development of 5G phones.
Phone providers are competing to be the first to provide consumers with a 5G phone and it looks like Samsung may have nearly achieved this.
Intel has already provided cruise liners with 5G access and a 5G modem has been introduced recently, by Qualcomm.
It is clear therefore, that 5G is well on its way and phone providers are keen to be a part of this new technological advance.
Wonil Roh, Samsung's head of advanced communication and VP stated that the new 5G phone could be released by 2019.
The company has developed "wireless fiber," comprising, antennae and receivers, to beam gigabit speeds wirelessly. Larger antennae have been created for larger companies and smaller stations for lampposts.
These smaller stations could eventually reduce the need for broadband fibers running to houses.
Due to its ability to provide end to end solutions, Samsung also create semi conductors, hardware, software and networks.
Samsung is already working in line with the industry standard required for devices and infrastructures to work together and as a result of this, their chipset could be read by the end of 2018. This is less time than is usual for devices to be enabled by chip makers.
Samsung's technology utilises millimetre wave spectrum over long distances and its data is transmitted up to 400 times quicker than 4G connections currently.
States that there has been a recent "surge" in wireless internet usage and this millimetre wave band is the best solution to this.
According to Chang Yeong Kim (VP) "Samsung’s recent success in developing the adaptive array transceiver technology has brought us one step closer to the commersialisation of 5G mobile communications in the millimetre-wave bands."
