Fans of Rihanna are now anticipating the airing of Rihanna’s in-depth interview with Oprah Winfrey which sees the pop star open up about ex-boyfriend Chris Brown’s assault and how it has affected her. And some of the things she revealed in the interview ‘shocked’ the queen of talk.
The 24-year-old singer described the incident as ‘a weird, confusing space to be in’. “It was embarrassing, it was humiliating…I lost my best friend.”
However, Rihanna revealed that even after the assault, while everybody was criticising Chris Brown for his actions, she was still thinking about Brown. “I felt like the only person they hate right now is him. As angry as I was, as angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help.”
“Who’s going to help him? Nobody’s going to say he needs help, everybody’s going to say he’s a monster, without looking at the source. And I was more concerned about him.”
The interview with Rihanna will be aired in an upcoming TV special entitled Oprah: The Next Chapter. The pre-released clips from the interview are enough to surprise some people, but the full interview, which will be shown on OWN on August 19, will provide more revelations from the singer – revelations that had Oprah exclaiming, at one point: “I would never have thought that.”
The talk show queen visited Rihanna in her childhood home in Barbados for the interview. Rihanna also toured Oprah around the island capital Bridgetown.
After the interview, Oprah was recorded as saying: “I thought she was gonna be kind of a bada**, a kind of hard-edged, rocker, pop woman. Nothing could have been farther from the truth.”
