R&B star Chris Brown has been given five years probation and 180 hours community labour after pleading guilty to assaulting his girlfriend, popstar Rihanna.
Brown, who left Rihanna with cuts and bruises after a fight before the Grammy Awards in February, was also ordered to attend domestic violence counselling.
Additionally he must stay at least 100 yards fromthe singer for the next five years.
Brown remained silent during his sentencing saying nothing other than acknowledging he understood the terms.
The judge said violation of the terms would be taken "very, very seriously" adding that the 180 hours labour would be physical and include clearing rubbish, washing cars and grounds cleaning.
Court documents state how the former couple got into a fight over a text message, on Brown's phone, from another woman.
He was then accused of trying to force the Rihanna out of their rented Lamborghini sports car, shoving her head against the window and repeatedly punching her in the face.
Brown admitted that his actions were "inexcusable" and has repeatedly apologised to the 'Umbrella' singer for his behaviour online via a video blog.
