Comedian Ricky Gervais had only filmed a few scenes for his comedy drama show ‘Derek’ before experiencing severe abdominal pain. He was examined by a doctor on set and was rushed to the hospital afterwards.
After being given urine and blood tests, the doctors informed the comedian that he has gastric flu.
The experience didn’t sap the comedy out of funnyman Gervais, who took to his website to give his fans an update by joking that he thought he had ‘cancer of the everything’.
His words read: “A fun-packed week filming on Derek was only marred slightly by the fact that an emergency doctor was called after 24 hours of severe abdominal pain.”
He also warned viewers of his new show: “I also couldn’t stop filming, so in some scenes, ‘Derek’ will look a little paler and sweatier than usual.”
The comedian is expected to have a full recovery and will be back filming ‘Derek’ in no time.
Aside from being a comedian, Gervais is also a director, producer, musician, and writer. Best known for his lead role of David Brent in his TV series ‘The Office’, and for Andy Millman in ‘Extras’, he was also a former radio presenter.
Both shows were co-written and co-directed by Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Gervais also has some Hollywood films to his name, including ‘The Invention of Lying and Ghost Town’.
The comedian is also the recipient of seven BAFTA Awards, five British Comedy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, two Emmy Awards, and the 2006 Rose d’Or.
