Customers at Halifax bank may be able to use their heartbeat instead of password to access their banking records. This could be made possible by a Canadian firm that developed a bracelet designed to measure cardiac rhythms unique to each person to log in online. It authenticates the user when their fingers are place on a tiny metal plate fitted to the band and which checks “cardiac signature.”
Customers will gain access as long as they are wearing the band. Should they take it off, they will be automatically logged off.
The bracelet has been developed by Canadian company Bionym, which claims that the technology is more secure that other biometric proofs of identification.
Halifax digital development director Marc Lien said: "We are in the very early stages of exploring potential uses for the Nymi Band and wearable technology more widely which will help us further understand how we can serve our customers in the way that best appeals to their needs."
