A bride in India left her husband-to-be just minutes before they exchange vows after he failed math tests. The bride, who was suspicious of her groom’s apparent qualifications asked the question: “What is 15 plus six?” to which the groom replied “17”.
She immediately left the venue saying she couldn’t marry an uneducated person.
Her father Mohar Singh said: "Any class one student must be able to solve the simple problem asked by us.
"The family of the groom had kept us in the dark about the youth's qualifications.
"It was a very embarrassing situation for all of us as we had come with all preparations and it was a matter of social prestige as well.
"We have been cheated".
The groom’s family tried to persuade her to continue with the ceremony but refused. Police officers were called to the scene and jewelleries that were exchanged were returned.
It is not the first time that an Indian bride walked away from her wedding. Anita Narian, rejected her husband’s home because there was no toilet. This paved the way for the the No Toilet, No Bride campaign in 2012 in India.
