Protective Gear You Should Have When Going to The Gym
13:48 01 November 2020
If you have access to a gym, make sure that you regularly go for you to be able to take advantage of the equipment that you can use to strengthen your core and muscles. However, aside from protecting your muscles from injury, you also need to ensure that you are properly secured from anything that you can get from a gym that is utilized by several other people, including viruses and bacteria. In line with this, below are some of the protective gear that you should have when going to the gym.
Hand Gloves
One of the things that you should have when going to the gym are hand gloves. However, there are several types of hand gloves for you to choose from, with some specifically designed to protect your hand from injury during weight training and others intended to ensure that you don’t acquire any virus from touching contaminated surfaces.
If you go for the former, then perhaps you can wear a face mask instead of reducing your risk of catching any virus from the droplets of other people going to the gym. However, if wearing a mask while working out restricts your breathing, then consider alternative options such as face shields instead. The key is in ensuring that you are not only protected from injury but any virus too.
Wrist Straps
Another gear that you should wear when going to the gym is a wrist strap, particularly when you are weight training. Wrist straps will provide the necessary support that you need for your joints as you are conducting the exercises that you need to perform. Keep in mind that when your wrists are injured, you can be out of the gym for a couple of weeks, or even months, to allow for the full healing of your injury. To avoid this scenario, it is better to use some wrist straps instead. To further protect the other joints in your body, consider wearing knee and ankle straps too.
Back Support
Aside from your hands and wrists, you should also protect your back, which is why you should invest in back support, such as a weightlifting belt. In this case, you will be able to maintain the proper posture as you are strengthening your core muscles. A weightlifting belt will also reduce the likelihood that you will eventually need to visit a chiropractor or physiotherapist due to lower back injuries, which proves to be more costly than investing no more than a hundred dollars for lower back support.
To wrap things up, make sure that you have the protective gear mentioned above when you go to the gym to ensure that you are safe both from injuries, as well as from any virus or bacteria. In doing so, you will be able to reap all the benefits that the gym equipment can help you with, rather than otherwise. Thus, don’t let your fear of getting an injury or catching the flu hold you back from going to the gym, just keep in mind to wear the proper protection.
