BT submits proposals to install a 1.8m communication hubs on the streets of Lincoln city centre. 

BT has submitted applications to local council signifying its interest to install communication hubs with six foot screen in Lincoln city centre. The firm says the scheme aims to boost broadband and 5G connectivity in the area as well as offer free phone calls to anywhere in the UK. 

According to the documents filed with the City of Lincoln Council, the street hubs were described as “the next evolution of public connectivity”. 

The hubs’ 6ft screens would feature advertisements, BT phonebook, local weather information, maps and a dedicated 999 call button. 

If the plans are approved, a spokesperson for BT confirmed that the company would ensure that the hubs are inspected weekly and monitored. The spokesperson added that measures will be taken to ensure that anti-social behavior management plans will be put in place.
