Victoria Beckham removed her hair extensions when she discovered impoverished women are being forced to sell their hair.

The former Spice Girl unveiled her sharp new bob last week, but having her hair chopped was not for fashion - it was a moral choice.

A friend of Victoria's told Britain's Closer magazine: "She felt awful for the girls forced to sell their hair just so they can buy food to live on - or even worse, those women who have no choice in the matter.

"Victoria felt really uncomfortable and decided to get rid of her extensions. She hopes other women will now think twice about having extensions too."

The 32-year-old wife of David Beckham saw reports that women in Russia and India are pinned down and have their heads shaved so that their ponytails can be sold for £1.50.

Victoria paid over £1,000 for her extensions.

Her friend also said that she was sick of all the other footballers' wives looking like her clones.

The pal revealed: "She loves her new haircut, and is pleased she doesn't look like all the other football WAGs."
