Police Warn Against Anti-Crash Technology

Police issues a warning after a driver relying on anti-crash technology ploughs into back of car on the M62.

The police have warned motorists not to rely solely on anti-crash technology after a nasty smash on the M62. On Sunday, a driver who was relying on the technology, ploughed into the back of a car saying he was expecting the anti-collision system to brake automatically.

 

Roads Policing Unit officer, PC Martin Willis, wrote on Twitter: "Just attended this collision just off junction 25 M62. A lesson to be learned... don't rely on anti-collision technology.

 

Members of the public agreed.

 

One wrote: "My car has this - I hate it and ignore it - pay attention people and take responsibility for your own car and actions!"

 

Said another: "My new BMW has this but i would NEVER trust it.

 

"There's no substitute for working out when to brake for yourself!"

 

Many car manufacturers are now advertising that their vehicles are equipped with computer systems that can predict and stop collisions. However, there have been many reports of the systems completely failing.
