Norfolk County Council Plans Meeting Streaming
Norfolk County Council reveals plans to live stream council meetings.
18:03 27 January 2019
Norfolk County Council plans on joining other councils who are now live streaming their meetings to allow people to engage with the democratic process as it happens.
The county’s halls digital innovation and efficiency committee is set to discuss the possibility of introducing the service via YouTube next week.
The move comes a year after Labour councillor Dave Rowntree proposed the measure as a motion. It was previously voted down by the Conservative group on the council but was subsequently reconsidered.
In the report, council officer Zoe Holmes said: “If the authority wishes to video broadcast meetings live on the Internet, it is suggested the YouTube webcam service is explored as a first step.
“That would give us flexibility to investigate hosted services in future.”
If approved, the council will invest £20,000 on cameras that will be installed in the council chamber and the Edwards Room at County Hall. The service is expected to begin from May 2019.
