ScotRail has formally filed an application to the North Ayrshire Council for the installation of new four CCTV cameras at Irvine railway station. The move is part of the larger scheme that aims to make the rails safer for passengers as well as deter trespassing on the tracks.
Application documents state that the 'anti-trespass' cameras would be installed at a listed building and would be mounted on the building canopy. It added that the devices would be used to gather enhanced coverage of 'concerning areas'.
The paperwork states: "Within this station, we are to provide more cameras and apply analytical rules to those cameras to provide trigger points to the CSC to provide early warning of any trespass onto the track from within the station.
"Existing CCTV locations will remain with the infrastructure remaining in place."
