PBX, which stands for Private Branch Exchange, is an innovative technology commonly used in companies and organisations. It allows users to communicate with their co-workers and the outside world using different communication channels. Its features include voicemail, call transfers, interactive voice menus (IVR) and ACD call queues.
PBX systems can either be Hosted or Virtual solutions. Because they are using open standards and interfaces, they are typically more flexible than proprietary systems and are cheaper and easier to replace than a closed system.
One of the many benefits of IP PBX is that it routes your internal telephony through an existing local computer network (LAN), eliminating the need for a separate network for telephony. IP-PBX can also be connected via gateways to the PSTN.
Since IP technology is mostly using the open SIP standard, an IP phone system gives users a wide range of options when choosing their phones. Their options include VoIP phones that are compatible with SIP and do not require to be connected physically to the phone system.
