Openreach’s multi-billion full-fibre investment is bringing some of the fastest broadband speeds to homes and businesses in parts of Greater Glasgow. The scheme is part of the firm’s commitment to bring fast and reliable broadband access to more than four million premises by March 2021. It has already started laying fibre-optic cables in Giffnock and Bearsden.
Clive Selley, Openreach CEO, said: “Through our Fibre First programme, we’re building a new network that delivers more than just speed.
“Full-fibre broadband provides a reliable, future-proof, consistent and dependable service that will be a platform for economic growth and prosperity throughout the UK for decades to come.”
Openreach is also working on the roll-out of Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband, a scheme that aims to bring fast internet connection to hard-to-reach areas.
The firm’s ambitious project has seen the creation of more than 220 engineering jobs across the country. Openreach has also invested more than £500,000 in its Scottish fibre training schools this year.
