Omagh PSNI will start posting CCTV images of suspects on its local Facebook page on Monday. ‘Operation Exposure’ has already been running in the Cookstown and Dungannon district for a number of weeks.
One photo will be posted on Facebook everyday. It will remain online for 24 hours before it gets deleted.
Police warn the public about naming people under Facebook posts.
The PSNI announcement reads: “Doing so may jeopardise any investigation, and those comments will be deleted.”
“Anyone doing so repeatedly may be banned from the page – it really is that important.”
“Each photo will be a CCTV image of someone we want to speak to in relation to various matters. Due to the nature of where CCTV is, it is usually theft or assault, occasionally burglary,” continued the statement.
“We’re confident that once we start showing you photographs that identifications will come in thick and fast.”
“There is no expectations that you will provide a statement and your information will be treated with absolute confidence.”
