New CCTV for Turriff

Turriff town centre is now monitored by CCTV cameras.

Turriff town centre has officially switched on its new CCTV network to monitor the main business and footfall areas, as confirmed by Marj Chalmers, chair of Turriff Business Association. 

 

The £34,000 surveillance system provides round-the-clock coverage of the main thoroughfares in the town centre and is directly linked to the local police station's main system. More than 100 businesses in the town will benefit from the scheme, which is funded by Aberdeenshire Council through the Scottish Govenment's Town Centre Grant Fund. 

 

The installation of CCTV has been one of the main concerns previously raised by both local businesses and the community during public consultations. They argue that the scheme will help assure both visitors' and the local community's safety and wellbeing. 

 

Local councillor Alistair Forsyth said: "I am supportive of the initiative that the Turriff Business Association has taken to promote and drive this project to completion.

 

"Several towns in Scotland and elsewhere in the UK have reaped the benefits of CCTV, improving security and wellbeing of residents and visitors alike.

 

"Turriff can pride itself in being added to this number.
