Do you ever wonder why video game graphics are better-looking on your Xbox or PS4 when compared to your phone? The reason is because gaming PCs are packed with expensive and powerful hardware, which smartphones in the market do not currently have.
However, Microsoft is planning to change this using a new technology called game streaming, which can make it possible to play games on any device but generate the visuals you see elsewhere. The idea is that Microsoft would handle the generation of the visuals on powerful computer at its own HQ. Because modern internet connections are so fast, this all happens in milliseconds.
At a press conference at this week’s E3 2018 game show in Los Angeles, Microsoft’s gaming chief Phil Spencer said: “Our cloud engineers are building a game streaming network to unlock console gaming on any device.” He said that it would work across Xbox, PC and even smartphones. Although a release date is not yet available, it is expected that once it goes live, the technology would be a major boon to Xbox fans who want to play their video games out and about.
