Four years after working on replacing analogue CCTV with state-of-the-art digital system, plans for the installation of new CCTV system in Malton and Norton will finally push through after Norton-on Derwent Town Council offered £15,000 and Malton Town Council pledged £29,000 for the project.
Martin Dales, chairman of RCIA, said: “The trustees and I are well aware that there have been delays which may have left people wondering what is happening.
“This has mainly been due to needing to get the paperwork in order and also because we have continued to take advice on the best scheme suitable for the three towns.
“I am pleased to announce that with the support of Malton and Norton town councils, Pickering in Business, Ryedale District Council, Crombie Wilkinson, St Michael’s Church in Malton, Malton and Norton businesses and the Earl Fitzwilliam Charitable Trust, we are now in a position to place the order which will see new cameras across the three towns. It is hoped that work will be able to commence in May.
“It is also clear that there are others who are considering funding the scheme, but haven’t as yet until it became clear we were ready to go ahead.
“All support is gratefully received and on behalf of the trustees I am massively grateful that this has continued to attract wide-spread community support as it did when the system was first fitted in 1997.
“Our aim is to keep residents, businesses and visitors alike as safe as possible while they are in the three towns; we believe this new scheme will play a major part in doing just that.”
