Zapp, the London-based on-demand grocery delivery start-up, is stretching its presence and breaking into the European boundaries. The app has been officially launched in Amsterdam and will become available in Rotterdam soon.
Zapp has also recently announced that Dutch entrepreneur and celebrity icon Bas Smith has become an investor with the expansion move. It is also backed by some of the world's leading investors, including Europe's Atomico, Silicon Valley's Lightspeed and Notable angels like Mato Peric, Christopher North (former Amazon UK CEO) and Stefan Smalla (Westwing CEO)
“I’m Zapp’s biggest fan after witnessing how friends in London have been wowed by the service,” says Bas. “Right from the beginning I knew we needed Zapp in the Netherlands and I’m delighted to help make this happen.”
Users of the app will find a wide range of products, including global brands and local Dutch brands like Vlaamsch Broodhuys, De Pindakaaswinkel, and Gebrouwen Door Vrouwen. Online shoppers may open the app, select the items, place the order and have it delivered within 20 minutes. A flat-rate fee of £1.80 is charged per delivery.
Steve O’Hear, VP of Strategy at Zapp said: “Zapp is building the future of convenience and that future must be sustainable. Our delivery fleet has been all-electric from day one, we only use sustainable materials for our own delivery packaging, and have committed to finding further ways to reduce our emissions as we scale the business while offsetting where that isn’t yet possible.”
Zapp was founded in 2020 in London by seasoned entrepreneurs Joe Falter and Navid Hadzaad, who most recently was a product leader at Amazon’s Seattle HQ after founding GoButler and scaling several ventures at Rocket Internet.
