A scheme that will see the installation of artificial intelligence CCTV cameras in Gainsborough has received £250,000 funding from the Government's Safer Streets Fund.
The bid, which was led by Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones, was a result of a collaborative effort between Lincolnshire Police and West Lindsey District Council.
The system will link cameras to the server to allow police to search recorded footage using search terms like clothing descriptions, age group and gender. Due to the AI component of the system, it is hoped to save hundreds of hours when carrying out investigations into crimes or missing people in the Gainsborough area.
Cameras in 18 different locations will be upgraded soon, with live streaming and other artificial intelligence features ready for use this summer. 54 new cameras will also be installed at 15 new places later on in 2021.
PCC Marc Jones said: “I am delighted that work has begun on this project and it is already making an impact in keeping the streets safer.
“It is another strong example of how Lincolnshire is deploying cutting edge technology to fight crime and protect residents and businesses from harm.”
