Justin Timberlake is looking to star in a new Hollywood musical.

The singer is up for a role in the film "Rent" - which is based on a hit stage show of the same name.

Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter films, is also set to be the director of the new musical.

But while he has said that Justin has asked for a part, it is not a done deal.

But despite his fame, good looks, and dance skills Justin might not make the grade.

"The music is the important thing in the film. The songs must be sung by trained singers. I think there is room for one or two pop stars in the cast, but Justin will have to go through as rigorous an audition process as everyone else," the director said.

"Rent" is based on Pucinni's "La Boheme", it follows a year in the life of a group of friends in an apartment in New York.
