37-year-old Nancy Motes, Oscar winner Julia Robert’s half-sister, was found dead in a Los Angeles residence in an apparent drug overdose.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office has confirmed that she was found dead in a bathtub full of water on Sunday. Prescription drugs and indications of a suicide note had been found on the residence, which was not Motes’s home.
An autopsy was scheduled for Monday. However, the actual cause of death maybe determined in eight to ten weeks pending a toxicology report.
46-year-old Julia Roberts, who has recently been nominated for a best supporting actress Oscar for her role in August: Osage County, was a no-show at the Oscar nominees luncheon hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences on Monday.
In a statement to People magazine, the Roberts family said: “It is with deep sadness that the family of Nancy Motes … confirms that she was found dead in Los Angeles yesterday of an apparent drug overdose.”
