The temporary CCTV camera was installed on 18 June 2019 after the local police requested assistance help in identifying people engaging in anti-social behaviour around the area. However, South Gloucestershire Council (SGC) decided to remove the camera after being in operation for just over six months.
An SGC spokesperson said: “The decision to remove the camera was made between the council’s ASB team and the police, based on the evidence showing a drop in incidents and no further justification for its continued presence.”
A response to an enquiry asking for a log of incidents for which footage from the Savages Wood Road camera was requested stated: “During the camera’s deployment, the council received a total of 12 requests from either the general public or the police to review CCTV footage. These reports consisted of three noise disturbances, six mopeds being driven on the cycle path, two assaults and one burglary. All of these incidents were reviewed on CCTV and, where necessary, the footage was extracted and supplied to the police to assist with their enquires.”
