Former pop star Gary Glitter, who is being accused of two counts of indecent assault, spectacularly lost his composure while giving testimony in court, official documents have revealed.
While trying to explain why he possessed child pornography images, he sobbed uncontrollably saying that he had been in a bad place in his life.
He also issued a tearful apology saying that he had lost his own dignity.
“I lost my own dignity, and I am so sorry. I am very sorry.”
"I am sorry today and every day of my life ever since. I am sorry to my fans."
Glitter – real name Paul Gadd - was arrested in November 1997 when an engineer who examined his laptop discovered images on it related to child pornography while attempting to fix a fault on the device.
He is also being accused of two counts of indecent assault, which allegedly took place between October 1979 and December 1980. A fan said that she was assaulted after Glitter invited her to his dressing room after a concert.
The singer has denied all the charges against him.
