US Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in Baghdad as Sunni insurgents have taken control of more towns across north-western Iraq. On Sunday, Isis-led rebels have successfully captured borders crossing to Syria and Jordan. They’ve also taken control of the airport in the northern Tal Afar. The town controls the main road from the Syrian border to Mosul, which was captured by the rebels two weeks ago.
Officials have also confirmed that the militants have taken control of key crossing in Anbar on Sunday after they seized one at Qaim, a town in the province that borders Syria.
Mr Kerry has spoken about the Iraq crisis on Sunday while he was in Cairo where he said that Sunni militants Isis' "ideology of violence and repression is a threat not only to Iraq but to the entire region.” He then urged Iraq’s leaders "to rise above sectarian motivations and form a government that is united in its determination to meet the needs and speak to the demands of all of their people.”
