Internet of Things (IoT) allows many agencies from across the world to leave their remote facilities unmanned. Isolated and rough terrain locations that require minimal attention can now be fully automated and connected so they can be remotely monitored.

 

Many advances in the field of IoT has completely eliminated the need for human operative at remote facilities. Several sensors can be used to monitor various factors that can affect the facilities’ efficiency, such as humidity, temperature and pollution. Each of these sensors can be designed individually and integrated to cover a multitude of environmental factors.

 

The IoT is doing more than just helping to automate unmanned systems; it also allows sensors to intelligently be aware of the people in any given environment. For example, a sensor fitted with facial recognition capabilities can be used to determine whether the person in the facility is authorised to be there. This would have many security applications including granting access to buildings, phones and even computers.

 

As our knowledge of IoT keeps on improving, a higher degree of customisation is definitely on the horizon. A coffee machine that recognises each user and prepares the drink just the way they like them is no longer impossible.
