One of the countries that are often blamed for this activity is Russia, which the US and UK have blamed in the past for global hacking campaigns that involve breaking into millions of computers and WiFi routers.
Although many hackers carry out attacks with the goal to break into one’s Amazon account or nick their broadband connection in the hopes of stealing money or identity, intelligence agency hacks are carried out in the hopes of hitting the home computer of a useful intelligence target or their family members.
But even when you are not part of the MI6, you may still be a hacking target. This could be the case if you are working for a major computing company or a utilities network for a key infrastructure. Countries hack each other so they’ll have the ability to disable important systems if the event that they have to go to war. If they are able to get into the systems of a power plant, for example, they can disrupt the grid before an attack. So, it is important for everybody that uses computer and the internet to have a firewall and antivirus software.
