Gwent Police to Stream 999 Calls
Gwent Police to trial live 999 call streaming.
17:18 17 November 2017
Gwent Police is set to become the first force in Wales to trial the 999eye service in which the public is allowed to share live video when making an emergency call. The service also provides police with precise GPS coordinates, allowing them to quickly identify the caller’s location.
Stream footage taken from callers’ smartphone helps operators get an accurate picture of the nature of the emergency and decide the best way to respond.
The videos can also be used as evidence to support investigations.
Supt Ian Roberts, head of Gwent Police control room, said it “fantastic” the force was leading the way in piloting “such as advanced piece of technology.”
