Glastonbury Legends – ELO

ELO, a band best known for the song Mr Blue Sky, will perform at Glastonbury.

ELO has been confirmed to play during Glastonbury’s “legends” slot on Sunday, 26 June.

 

In 2014, Dolly Parton’s stint in the slot attracted the biggest crowd that Glastonbury ever seen while Lionel Richie’s appearance last year sent him to the top of the charts.

 

Although the main headliners for this year’s festival are yet to be announced, there are rumours that Muse, Adele, Coldplay and Rihanna will top bill the Pyramid Stage.

 

ELO, which stands for Electric Light Orchestra, was formed by Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood in 1970. Together, they had an 18-year run of hits such as The Diary of Horace Wimp, Roll Over Beethoven, Telephone Line and Sweet Talkin’ Woman. They sold 50 million records before Lynne called time in 1988.

 

In 2001, the duo tried to revive the band with a new album called Zoom. However, ticket sales were unimpressive prompting them to cancel the comeback tour.

 

However, an on-air campaign by BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans pressured the ban into reuniting in 2013 for a one-off show in Hyde Park. After an overwhelming response, Lynne worked on a new album, Alone in the Universe, under the moniker Jeff Lynne’s ELO.
