'Braveheart' star Mel Gibson has split from his Russian model/singer girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, it has been reported.

The end of the relationship came just five months after she gave birth to their daughter, Lucia.

Gibson and Grigorieva reportedly “drifted apart”, as they both focussed on their careers. Both have allegedly pledged to remain on civil terms for the sake of their five-month-old daughter.

A source said: “They just drifted apart. They’re both working hard on their careers and trying to raise a sweet baby together.

"They're still friends and they'll both raise Lucia together.”

Reports have also surfaced that Oscar winner Gibson ended their relationship following a big argument.

A source said: “After the row Mel told Oksana it was over.”

Gibson, who recently released 'Edge of Darkness' - his first leading role in front of the camera since 2002's 'Signs' - has previously admitted he didnÂ’t intend to marry the starlet.

He said recently: “She’d make anyone a wonderful wife, but for the moment, she’s a mother."

Gibson has seven children with estranged wife Robyn, who filed for divorce last May.

Following the legal proceedings, it was revealed that the long-lasting couple had actually been separated for some time and that the actor was in a relationship with Grigorieva.

In 1996, Gibson won two Oscars for producing and directing 'Braveheart'. His other endeavours in the director's chair include the controversial, yet extremely successful, 'Passion of the Christ' and 'Apocalypto'.
