Eastleigh Borough Council has partnered with Eastleight Business Improvement District (BID) to provide free WiFi to Eastleigh town centre. The service will cover all the roads and open spaces in the town centre, including the railway station. Both residents and visitors will be able to browse online for free and subscribe to services should they wish to receive notifications about retail promotions, news and listings, all of which aims to support local traders.
Eastleigh BID manager Teresa Swann welcomed the news and said: "We are very excited to the launch of the town's free Wi-Fi which will encourage visitors stay longer in the town. It also allows us to monitor the number of new visitors and returners in the town, while giving us a platform to market events and promotions in a cost effective way."
Chair of the Eastleigh Local Area Committee, councillor Wayne Irish, said: “An increasing number of retail destinations are introducing free wifi and, working with the BID, the council is always keen to support our businesses and provide a better experience for town centre visitors who, I am sure, will welcome this initiative.”
