Former Coronation Street actress Ali Briggs is set to return to the ITV1 soap.

According to reports Briggs, who played Emily Bishop's deaf niece Freda, will make her comeback in July with a new fianc in tow.

Freda was last seen on screen in 2005 falling out with Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden).

A Corrie source told The Mirror: "Norris struggled to deal with her deafness and this led to some great comedy scenes at Norris's expense.

"Freda was cast in the mould of many great Corrie women, she was funny, nosy, and a smart woman who just happened to be hearing impaired.

"We hope to carry on where we left off with her."

Briggs, who is deaf in real life, landed the show with a top disability award for her portrayal of Freda.
