When it comes to live video streaming, YouTube remains to be the frontrunner. According to the Media Futures report from research consultancy Magid, more people prefer YouTube over other live streaming services.
However, Facebook Live has managed to grab headlines as thousands of brands and media companies have taken advantage of the service as soon as it became available in 2016. The reason? Facebook’s massive reach that allows them to connect to more people and further strengthen their brands.
Facebook is also credited for the growth of video streaming. According to a UBS Evidence Lab report, the amount of live-stream video viewed on Facebook increased from 14per cent to 17per cent over six months. This is crucial because other platforms, including YouTube, saw their viewership declined.
When it comes to streaming news, surveys have found that live news is now popular than long-form video on video platforms. Reuters Digital News Report found that in a given week, 15per cent of respondents watch live news and 12 per cent watch longer news video. On news websites and social media platforms, longer-form news video is more popular.
