Three familiar TV actors are set to join the ITV soapÂ…

Three new cast members are set to join Emmerdale including former Coronation street star Chris Bisson.

As well as Bisson, who played Vikram Desai in Corrie, 'Torchwood' actor Rik Makarem and 'Hollyoaks: In the City' actress Effie Woods are also joining the ITV soap.

The three will play Jai, Nikhil and Priya Sharma, who together take up residency in the Yorkshire village managing the new local confectionary factory.

Of his new role, Bisson said: "Jai is a bit of a charmer and has an eye for the ladies but he's also a hard worker with a good business mind.

"I'm delighted to be joining Emmerdale at a time when the show is going from strength to strength. I can't wait to get started."

The three actors have already begun filming for their first appearance on screen which will air in September.

Emmerdale series producer Gavin Blyth said: "The Sharmas are a young, contemporary family independent of their parents and will bring the factory into the heart of the village community.

"They will add real vitality to life in Emmerdale."
