A 24-year-old student was left shocked after secret details of future Emmerdale plots landed on his doorstep.

Ben Ladlow, from Leeds, was mistakenly sent a package by ITV bosses detailing locations and filming schedules for the hit soap.

Emmerdale officials are now investigating how such a sensitive document, which reveals plans to spice up the soap, ended up in the wrong hands and then appeared in the Daily Star newspaper.

"We are taking it very seriously and are currently investigating how the mistake has been made," an Emmerdale spokeswoman said.

The document is said to reveal a number of steamy plotlines, including a love triangle, an unplanned pregnancy and a sex blackmail case involving Charity Dingle, played by 29-year-old Emma Atkins.

It also details when and where filming is due to take place - information that ITV bosses will be distinctly unhappy about entering the public domain.

"I couldn't believe my eyes," Ladlow told the newspaper.

"Somebody must have put my address on it in error. It's a pretty embarrassing mistake."
