Russell Crowe has splashed out on a diamond ring for his wife to apologise for assaulting a New York hotel worker.
The Oscar-winning star gave wife Danielle Spencer, mother of his one-year-old son, Charlie, the $250,000 pear-shaped trinket to say 'sorry' for losing his temper during a row over a telephone call last month.
A source told America's Star magazine: "That was his 'Honey, I've been a jerk' gift."
The 'Gladiator' star is already facing a million dollar lawsuit after failing to settle the assault charge out of court.
The hot-headed star, famed for his temper, was charged with second degree assault and possession of a weapon earlier this month.
He had allegedly attacked hotel clerk, Nestor Estrada, with a telephone and a ceramic bowl because he couldn't get a call through to his wife at home in Australia.
Afterwards, the 41-year-old star admitted he was more worried about facing Danielle than a judge.
The actor told American chat show host, David Letterman: "I regret everything that took place and I've apologised to my wife - there's not many things that scare me in this world, but I'm absolutely terrified of disappointing her."
