Depeche Mode singer Dave Gahan has undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumour in his bladder.

The iconic band are currently on a world tour but have been forced to cancel eight shows because of Gahan's health.

In a statement on the band's website it said Gahan "sincerely thanks his fans for their support, understanding and patience".

It continues to say that they "deeply regret any problems or inconveniences the cancellations and postponements may have caused"

Gahan's tumour has now been removed, however doctors have ordered him to rest until June 8.

All cancelled gigs will be rescheduled. The tour will resume in Leipzig, Germany.
