Big Brother presenter Davina McCall has said that she would love to see pop superstar Elton John and rock wild man Pete Doherty star in the celebrity version of the Channel 4 reality show.

"I think we need fiery characters like Pete Doherty," ITN reports Davina as saying.

The TV host said that Elton John, who is known for his temper tantrums, would also be "great" for the latest series of Celebrity Big Brother, due to begin in January.

Still, it would be hard for the temperamental pair to create less harmony between one another in the Big Brother house than they did during their recent Live 8 performance, which was panned by music critics.

It is also debatable whether even celebrity hell-raiser Doherty could out-perform the antics this summer's ordinary Big Brother contestants indulged in, including the controversial pool party between eventual winner Anthony and Makosi and stormy rows between contestants.

But defending the show, Davina said she thought the fact the latest series was "quite bitchy at the beginning" made it "very watchable from the start."

"Generally speaking it takes me a couple of weeks to get into it but I was right into this series from day one," said the Big Brother host.
"I thought it was a big success."
