'Coronation Street' fans are to see Frankie and step-son Jamie share a New Year's kiss in a sensational new storyline.
The two characters have formed a close bond in recent months after discovering Danny Baldwin, Jamie's father and Frankie's husband, was having an affair with Leanne Battersby, Jamie's then girlfriend.
Jamie, played Rupert Hill, begins to have romantic feelings towards his step-mum, played by Debra Stephenson, and his feelings intensify when a tipsy Frankie kisses him on the lips on New Year's eve.
Actor Rupert said: "Frankie's attractive and Jamie cares for her a lot. He's confused about their relationship.
"At the moment she's the only woman he really trusts and he's mistaken that for infatuation."
Although Frankie is unaware of the implications of the kiss, Jamie's real mother Carol - who is living with the heartbroken pair as she struggles to recover from alcoholism - realises the magnitude of the situation.
Rupert is quoted on the ITV website as saying: "Frankie is oblivious to what has just happened, but Carol isn't. She knows it may break Jamie and Frankie's bond."
The handsome actor doesn't yet know if Jamie and Frankie's relationship will develop romantically, but admits it would be controversial if it did.
He added: "It would be very strange if it was to go any further. It will either burn itself out or get very complicated."
