Stunt on the street to be most expensive in soap history...

Coronation StreetÂ’s upcoming tram crash storyline is set to be the most expensive stunt in soap history.

The episode is being filmed as part of a special week of episodes to celebrate 50 years of the soap.

It has been reported that a viaduct will collapse; sending a tram crashing into the street, with viewers seeing the deaths of several key characters.

Speaking to the Daily Star, executive producer Phil Collinson said:

“We’ve had a significant amount of extra money from ITV for this stunt. It’s not enough, it’s never enough.

“It’s the most money we’ve ever spent in the show’s history; it’s going to be a spectacular series of episodes.”

He also added:

“They are going to make sure these episodes are like nothing we've ever seen on Coronation Street. I can't tell you how excited I am.”

Filming started on the series of special episodes this week in Manchester, with bosses keen to keep exact details under wraps.
