Common Cybersecurity Mistakes

A recent survey has found four cybersecurity mistakes you’re most likely to make.

A survey conducted by the National Privacy Test and participated by 5,000 internet users have identified the most common cybersecurity mistakes that people often make.

 

·       Opening and clicking links in phishing emails – The majority of respondents (94per cent) think they recognise phishing emails. However, 45per cent of them still click on dangerous links or provide personal information when they shouldn’t. This is a proof that although users recognised basic malicious emails, they can still be fooled by more sophisticated phishing emails.

 

·       Sharing holiday photos – When people share their holiday photos on social media, they are telling everybody that their home is empty. To be safe, post pictures when you’re back home and do not share your location on social media.

 

·       Thinking that public Wi-Fi is safe – 23per cent of respondents said that entering bank credentials when making a purchase online while connected to a public WiFi is safe. This cannot be far away from the truth as any information entered while connected to a public WiFi can be intercepted.

 

·       Information overload confuses Internet users – The survey found that topics of online privacy and security could be very confusing for an average online user.
