A recent report released by the Equality and Human Rights Commission in Scotland reveals that thousands of elderly and people with disability in the country are not able to live their lives to the fullest and have limited activities because their house are not properly designed to fit their special needs and keeps them from living independently.
To address the problem, Blackwood has set out to demonstrate a new standard for independent living in the country. They have designed the Blackwood House with inputs from people with disabilities to offer individuals who want to live independently a beautiful, highly accessible, affordable and connected house.
The houses’ clever design and integrated technology support people to do more for themselves. They use the company’s bespoke digital care system called CleverCogs, which enables them to open the blinds, control the TV, order shopping and stay connected with friends and family, all at the touch of a button. The design also features a centre core for the bathroom and kitchen – with movable fittings and rise and fall units for easy access.
