Chris Tarrant, the 67-year-old host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, has suffered a mini-stroke on a flight from Thailand to London and has been in hospital for more than a week as confirmed by his agent and manager.
Reports stated that the host fell ill during an 11-hour flight and was rushed to hospital from Heathrow Airport.
Initially, Tarrant was believed to have suffered only an asthma attack. However, doctors found a potentially fatal blood clot in his leg and performed an emergency operation before it could dislodge and cause a major stroke.
Last night his agent and manager Paul Vaughan said: "They found a clot which they managed to break up.
"It was a clot in the leg and that can immediately go to the brain or lungs.
"He is determined to leave hospital.
"But he's not going back to work.
"This is a nasty wake-up call."
Tarrant, who is still in Charing Cross Hospital, had been filming a new travel series in Burma, which is due to air on Channel 5 later this year.
