Cheryl Cole has been told to stop smoking if she wants to land a job as a judge on the US version of the X Factor.
The star's voice coach warned her that she must quit the cigarettes if she wants to be understood stateside.
Pop star Cheryl is trying to bag a job as a judge on the US X Factor and has spent the last two weeks in Los Angeles having elocution lessons to soften her Geordie accent.
However, The Sun has revealed that the 27-year-old must put a stop to her 20-a-day habit if she wants to crack America.
A source told the newspaper:
"Cheryl's teacher has advised her to stop smoking. But she says the move to LA and X Factor job is stressful enough without having to try and quit the cigs on top.
"Voice coaches are determined to make her sound more American but in a natural way. Basically just so she can be understood."
It was reported on 5 April that the only confirmed judge, LA Reid, let it slip that Miss Cole would be joining the panel.
Simon Cowell's official spokesperson refused to comment on the news.
